Perfect Winter Weather

Posted by

Wilmington has been experiencing gorgeous, warm weather since the start of 2017. January and February have been exceptionally warm, with Spring-like temperatures of highs in the 60’s and 70’s. On January 17th, the temperature reached a pleasant 77 degrees, one of the ten days temperatures were above 70 degrees that month! This month Wilmington residents have already enjoyed five days above 70. This year so far there has only been one day when the temperature did not rise above the freezing mark.

This weather has been perfect for outdoor activities; luckily, Wilmington has so many to offer. There are numerous parks, many restaurants that offer outdoor seating, outdoor beer gardens, the beach, outdoor events that are always taking place, open air shopping malls, and there is always plenty to do when walking around Historic Downtown Wilmington. This warm weather has been a wonderful start to 2017!

Posted by

Have you ever thought “Wow, Wilmington is the best city in North Carolina?”. Well, you were right! A recent study found that Wilmington is the favorite city in North Carolina.

Public Policy Polling, a national polling company, conducted the study with 953 North Carolinians to determine their preferences on various topics, including barbecue, basketball, doughnuts, and the state song. Last time the study was conducted five years ago, Wilmington and Raleigh tied for first place with a 67% favorability rating. This year however Wilmington won with 69%, followed by Raleigh with 62%, then Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Cary, Greenville, Durham, Fayetteville, and Carrboro coming in last.

Wilmington received such a high favorability rating because there is so much to offer. There is the beach, river, Intracoastal Waterway, shopping centers, a rich history, amazing restaurants, and friendly people. Wilmington is an exciting, welcoming town and great place to live.

Celebrity Chef Attends Fundraiser at the Country Club of Landfall

Celebrity Chef, Giada De Laurentiis, was at the Country Club of Landfall last Friday for a Breakfast and Lunch Fundraiser. The Fundraiser benefitted the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington, which is a Charter School that is designed to help girls from 6th grade thru 12th grade become first generation college students.

On Friday, over 600 attendees came out to support the cause and meet Giada De Laurentiis. Giada has ties to the area from her grandfather, director Dino De Laurentiis, who built the Screen Gem Studios in Wilmington in 1984.

For the hungry attendees, De Laurentiis’ lunch menu consisted of faro and kale salad, roasted chicken cacciatore, and polenta cake. In addition to the breakfast and lunch there was a silent auction. Overall the event raised an impressive $400,000 for the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington!
