Landfall’s Golf and Games Day

This Monday at Landfall, the Good Shepard Center is hosting the 13th Annual Golf and Games Day for members. The day is filled with activities, and they have something for everyone. At the Nicklaus Golf Course the golf tournament begins at 1:00pm. The fee is $200 and includes golf, cart, practice range, gift bag and dinner. That morning from 9:00-11:00 there will be a tennis tournament which is followed by an optional lunch. The games portion of the day includes duplicate bridge, party bridge, mah jongg, Mexican train, and poker, which will be played at the Nicklaus Clubhouse. There is an optional lunch for the players at 11:30am, and then the games start at 12:30pm. Throughout the game day there will be refreshments and raffles. The event ends with a dinner at the Country Club of Landfall, which includes special speakers, golf awards, and a Silent Auction. Proceeds from the day go to the Good Shepard Center, which feeds the hungry and shelters the homeless.

The Landfall Foundation Gala: Havana Nights

Havana Nights is the theme this year for the 20th Annual Landfall Foundation Gala! The event is this Saturday, April 2nd, at the Country Club of Landfall at 6:00pm. Patrons will spend the evening at the Cuban theme party, which is set in the 1950’s, enjoying the Caribbean décor, Latin food, and specialty drinks. There will also be percussion and dance performances, followed by the popular band Jack Jack 180. Ken Beasley will be leading the live auction, with opportunities to bid on fabulous dinners, amazing trips, jewelry, and more.

Proceeds from the gala benefit the Landfall Foundation with grants that go to deserving charities in the Wilmington area. Grants totaling $360,000 were distributed last year from the foundation to 78 local non-profit organizations. In the past 20 years the Landfall Foundation has donated over $3.4 million through individual and capital grants, and scholarships.

Easter at Landfall

This Saturday at the Temple Gardens its Landfall’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Starting at 11:00 am the egg hunt is open to all members and residents for $7 per child. To sign up, call 256-8411.

On Easter morning there is a brunch at the Country Club of Landfall from 10:30 until 3:00. There will be a pastry display with pains au chocolate, mini croissants, cinnamon rolls, assorted danishes, coffee cake, bagels, and cream-top biscuits. Additionally, there will be soups, quiche lorraine, salmon cakes benedict, shrimp and grits, maple ham, smoked salmon and shrimp cocktail strawberry salad, carve leg of lamb, slow roasted sirloin of beef with cabernet jus, and grilled chicken. Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon

This Sunday is the annual Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon. Landfall Realty is proud to have been one of the major sponsors of the event since the beginning. The half and full marathons begin Sunday morning at 6:15 and 6:35 at the Wrightsville Beach park and end at Mayfaire. The race route takes runners through Landfall along Arboretum Dr, South Moorings, and Pembroke Jones Dr. The Landfall Realty realtors (pictured below at last year’s race), their spouses, and children volunteer at a drink station in Landfall where they cheer on participants as well. Throughout the course there are hundreds of people cheering on the athletes, often with signs of encouragement, which makes the race fun for everyone in the community. UNCW vs Duke University

Tomorrow is the day of the big game! UNCW plays Duke in the first round of the NCAA March Madness College Basketball Tournament. The game, which is played in Providence, Rhode Island, will be aired on CBS at 12:15pm. Duke University is the number 4 seed in the West Division and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington is the 13th. Duke has been to the NCAA tournament 21 years in a row, which is the second-longest streak in tournament history, only behind Kansas. Duke and UNCW have only played once before in 1982 when Duke won 67-57. The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Yale/Baylor game and will play on Saturday. The Seahawks’ record in the March Madness tournament is 1-4, but after a 6-year hiatus from the NCAA tournament they hope to improve that record. Be sure to tune in and watch the game tomorrow and cheer on our underdogs, the Seahawks!

A Tribute to the Beatles

If you’re a Beatles fan then you’ll love the Symphony Pops: A Tribute to the Beatles, which is being held next Saturday, March 19 at 7:30pm. The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is putting on the tribute at the CFCC Humanities and Fine Arts Center on North Third St. Over two-dozen Beatles songs will be performed as originally written, including Penny Lane, I Am the Walrus, Yesterday, and A Day in the Life. The four singers sound very similar to the original band members and with the full orchestra accompaniment its an unique way to enjoy a classic band. UNCW Men’s Basketball Team in the NCAA Tournament!

The UNCW Men’s basketball team has made it to the March Madness Tournament! After ten years without making the NCAA Tournament, the Seahawks have qualified with a comeback win against top seed Hofstra last night. The final score of the game was 80-73 making their season record 25-7. Senior guard Craig Ponder scored the led his team with 20 points, closely followed by junior guard Chris Flemmings with 19 points and junior guard Denzel Ingram adding 17 points. Congratulations to the Seahawks and good luck in the upcoming tournament!

UNCW Men’s Baseball

This weekend come support your UNCW Seahawks as the Men’s Baseball team takes on the Penn State Nittany Lions. The first game of three is this Friday at 2:00pm located at the Brooks Field in Wilmington. The following games are at 2:00pm Saturday and 4:00pm Sunday also at the Brooks Field. This weekend’s games will be exciting with competitive since the Seahawks’ current record is 6-0. Admission prices range from $5.00 to $11.00 and can be bought at the field. Come out and enjoy the sunny weather and cheer on UNCW’s baseball team!
