Wrightsville Beach Holiday Flotilla

Posted by

The 32nd Annual Holiday Flotilla at Wrightsville Beach is this Saturday! The event that serves as a transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas is one of locals’ favorite events. The Flotilla is a parade of boats decorated in bright Christmas lights. The holiday boat decorations often incorporate marine themes too. In recent years the Flotilla has become more interactive with each boat labeled with a number and viewers can text in their vote for their favorite contestant. Last years winner was a boat decorated to look like a turtle wearing a Santa hat.

The holiday events at Wrightsville Beach kick off on Friday at 5:45pm with the Tree Lighting Ceremony and Visit with Santa. Then on Saturday starting at 10:00am lasting until 4:00pm, Wrightsville Beach Park hosts, “Festival in the Park.” The Festival includes craft vendors, food vendors, and a visit from Santa. The boat parade starts at 6:00pm and is followed by fireworks at 7:30pm.

This weekend, November 6th-8th, is the Annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational at Landfall! This year’s celebrities include retired MLB, NBA, and NFL players, professional golfers, Olympians, actors, and coaches. A few of the celebrities attending include Cliff Livingston, Sydney Penny, Larry Rivers, Richard Roundtree, Greg Vaugn, and Cornelius Bennett.

Wilver (Willie) Stargell was a World Series Champion, Hall of Famer, All-Star, and MVP baseball player for the Pittsburg Pirates from 1962 until 1982. With 475 career homeruns Willie was quick to become a baseball legend. He was known for his leadership on and off the field resulting in his teammates affectionately calling him “Pops”.

The first event of the weekend is a private celebrity and sponsor reception on Friday night. Saturday 9:00am until 10:00am is the celebrity autograph signing at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Mayfaire, followed by The Willie Stargell Auction Dinner and Dance that night at 6:00 at the Country Club of Landfall. Then on Sunday morning it’s the Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament at Landfall. Passes for the golf portion of the event are available for $20.
