Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri Attends Fundraiser at the Country Club of Landfall

Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri was in town on Friday for a charity event held at the Country Club of Landfall! The host of the popular television show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives was in town visiting local restaurants and attending the third annual GLOW Fundraiser, which is the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington. The chef was excited to see the community coming together to support the education of the young girls and of the girls for their determination to succeed. The Country Club of Landfall hosted the event, which included breakfast, lunch, and dinner events.

The fundraiser was to raise money for a new school that is being built in Wilmington for GLOW off of Kerr Avenue. The new school will offer a lot more resources, space, tools, and enhance the learning environment for the students. Expected to be completed in time for the 2019-2020 school year, this school will be a great new addition to the community!

Robert Burns Scottish Dinner

Get your kilts and bagpipes! It’s time for the Annual Robert Burns Supper at the Country Club of Landfall. This unique event is held in honor of Robert Burns, a renowned Scottish bard, famous for his songs and poems, including “Auld Lang Syne”.

The exciting event takes place this Saturday night at the Nicklaus Clubhouse starting at 6:00pm. There will be Scottish-inspired and Gaelic music, dancing, door prizes, toasts, bagpipes, a silent auction, and plenty of drinks. The dinner menu also incorporates the Scottish theme with a choice of roast land, seared salmon, or beef sirloin, which are served with Scotch style sauce and warm apple bread pudding.

The birthday celebration for Robert Burns is a fun event filled with entertainment and Scottish culture. The dress code for the event is Scottish attire, black tie, or business suit. This event, the largest fundraiser of the year for the Scottish Society of Wilmington, is sure to be an unforgettable night!

UNCW Basketball

This weekend come support the Seahawks! The University of North Carolina at Wilmington men’s basketball team is taking on Towson. This is a big game, as it is a division matchup. The Seahawks are an exciting team to watch, and have made it to the March Madness Division 1 NCAA tournament the past two years. This is a great event to bring the whole family to. The fan’s enthusiasm in the gym will help even non-sports fans get involved in the game. The game is this Saturday at 7:00pm. Ticket prices vary from $10 to $18. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Drysdale Sports Center!

The ribbon cutting ceremony to christen the new Drysdale Sports Center is happening Tuesday! After much anticipated renovations the gorgeous new state of the art fitness center will be open. The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce will be at the County Club of Landfall to officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony. After spending $8 million on renovations the new facilities will feature new equipment, more classes, more space, and more support for each member’s health journey.

 

Drop-In Childcare

New at the Country Club of Landfall is Drop-In Childcare! This is a great program to take advantage of. The service will be available in the morning Monday through Friday 8:00am until 12:00pm, and is complimentary to Full and Sports Members for their immediate family members. Also, the childcare will be available in the afternoons Monday to Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm for the price of $8 for the first child and $6 for the second. This is a great program for the children to have a fun time and be entertained while allowing parents to get to the gym, run errands, or just have some free time.

Additionally, there are multiple after school classes for children at the Country Club of Landfall. For children ages 5+ there is Taste Buds, a class on January 2 that made cinnamon roll cookies and banana penguins, and Craft Starters, a class taking place on January 18th that will make bottle penguins. For children ages 8+ there is Chef Apprentice a class on January 4 that made feather brush stroke cupcakes, and a class on January 25, Creation Station, where the children will make winter wall art. All month long there are Homework Hustle classes, which take place from 3:30-5:00pm every Tuesday and Wednesday.
