Wilmington Featured in U.S. News Article

Wilmington was recently featured in an article on U.S. News’ website in their travel section in an article “3 Underrated Southern Spots to Visit This Spring.” Instead of visiting the large Southern towns such as Savannah and New Orleans, there are multiple smaller towns that have plenty to offer. In 2014 Wilmington’s Wrightsville Beach was names one of the “Last Best American Beach Towns” by National Geographic Traveler and the Blockade Runner Hotel is said to be one of the “10 Best Lodges in North America” by Outside Magazine. The article also points out that the island is very active, hosting a stand up paddle board contest in the ocean and the 2.45 mile fitness trail that circles around the island.

The article then goes on to mention all the shopping in Wilmington. By Wrightsville Beach there is Mayfaire Town Center and Lumina Station, which are quaint outdoor shopping villages with plenty of boutiques and restaurants. In Downtown Wilmington there is an array of shops carrying antiques, vintage clothes, accessories, and souvenirs. Many of these shops are along the 1.75 mile Riverwalk that runs along the Cape Fear River and includes multiple restaurants.

Additionally, the article points out that in a town as old as Wilmington there is plenty of history. In downtown Wilmington there is a 230 block National Register Historic District, where guests can tour Victorian homes or take a “Ghost Walk” of haunted houses and burial grounds.
