Annie Warbucks at Thalian Hall

One of the most iconic musical characters is coming to Thalian Hall! Annie Warbucks the sequel to Annie starts showing tomorrow until Sunday. Annie Warbucks starts off where Annie finished, with Child Welfare Services telling Daddy Warbucks that he must marry in sixty days in order for Annie to have a mother. This becomes a much harder task than first thought due a plot to con Daddy Warbucks for his money. Showtimes are 7:30pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 3:00pm Sunday. Holiday Events at The Country Club of Landfall

The Country Club of Landfall has something for everyone. Whether you are interested in golf, tennis, the pool, music, food, dances, parties, or classes, The Country Club of Landfall has it for you. Now, in the Holiday Season, there are a lot of events in the next week that you won’t want to miss.

First, happening this Tuesday is the Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Class. This fun class helps you design the perfect gingerbread house, which will look great on display in your own home. It takes place in the Heron Room and Ladies 19th Hole and lasts from 3:30pm until 5:30pm.screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-11-57-21-am

Then, on Wednesday there are two events! The Great Oaks Club of Landfall is meeting at 11:30 at the Landfall Clubhouse for their annual Christmas luncheon. Later that day is the Silver Oak Wine Dinner in the Landfall Ballroom at 6:30. This dinner is a great chance to try new wine and savor a dinner that is perfectly paired with it.

On Thursday, it’s the Holiday Social, which is a fantastic time to catch up with friends and meet new ones while enjoying drinks and hors d’ouerves. The social starts at 6:00pm at the Landfall Clubhouse.

Then, on Sunday, it’s one of Landfall’s newest traditions, the extremely popular Christmas Carol Sing. This event now in its second year, is a 30-minute musical program where everyone is encouraged to join in the Christmas Carols. There will be musical accompaniment and song sheets passed out to everyone. The caroling takes place at the Kenan Chapel at 5:00pm, and after everyone is invited back to the Country Club of Landfall for refreshments.

Jingle Bell 5K Run at Wrightsville Beach

Santas, snowmen, reindeer running around the Wrightsville Beach Loop? That’s exactly what is happening Saturday morning at 9:00am.

The 7th Annual Jingle Bell 5K Run and Walk is a fundraising event with proceeds benefitting the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History. The Wrightsville Beach Museum educates visitors about the island’s island history and explains what makes the island so unique. Ranked as a “top 20 Best Surf Town” and one of the “Last Best American Beach Towns” by National Geographic, Wrightsville Beach has a lot to offer.

The Jingle Bell Race Fundraiser is one way the Museum is able to have free admission to all guests. The race, which is a 5K run or walk, encourages participants to dress up in holiday costumes, including Santas and snowmen. This Saturday join in the fun and sign up for the race or come cheer on the participants!

Enchanted Garden

It’s the time of year again to get in the holiday spirit! And what better way than by a tour screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-12-28-11-pmaround one of the oldest and most enchanting gardens in Wilmington decorated in Christmas lights?

Airlie Gardens is hosting their Enchanted Airlie Series, which they have done annually since 2005. Every weekend thru December 22nd guests will walk the half-mile self guided tour through the gardens looking at the twinkling lights and holiday displays. Additionally, there are local food and beverage vendors at Airlie Gardens who will be selling coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies, and more.

Enchanted Airlie will run on December 2nd-4th, 9th-11th, and 15th-22nd, and there will be two run times per evening, one from 5:00-7:00 and one from 7:00-9:00. Tickets sell out so be sure to buy yours in advance. You won’t want to miss this celebration of the holidays!

Country Club of Landfall Holiday Events

This weekend at the Country Club of Landfall there are two fun holiday events! First on Friday, there is Dinner with Santa. Starting at 5:00pm and lasting until 8:00pm, Dinner with Santa includes a buffet, cookie decorating, pictures with Santa, a hot chocolate bar, an appearance by the Grinch, and a holiday movie.

Then on Sunday evening at the Landfall Ballroom from 4:00-8:00 the Holiday Marketplace will be taking place. Now in its 6th year, the event is organized by the Landfall Foundation. With over 35 vendors the Holiday Marketplace is the perfect time to find gifts for your family and friends. Tickets are $20.00, which includes appetizers, shopping, and knowing that a portion of the proceeds from all purchases will go to local non-profit agencies in the Wilmington Area. Thanksgiving Dinner at the Landfall Clubhouse

Riverfest

This weekend it’s one of Wilmington’s most anticipated festivals, Riverfest! The festival, which features street fairs, live music, fireworks, and more kicks off this Friday at 6:00pm.

Riverfest was started in 1979 by Wilmington locals who wanted to showcase Historic Downtown Wilmington along the Cape Fear River. In the 37 years since the festival was founded it has grown tremendously, and now attracts nearly 250,000 people every year.

Friday evening Riverfest opens with a concert featuring Chillin Dixie from 6:00-8:00 and Machine Gun 8:45-11:00. One of the main attractions, the street fair, opens at 9:00am on Saturday and 9:30am on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon the Bloody Mary Regatta takes place on the Cape Fear River, which is always an exciting event. Wrapping up Saturday activities are the fireworks, which happen at 7:30 along the Cape Fear River. Also happening all weekend is the Car Show, BMX Bike Show, a pirate parade along Water Street, live music, and live performances.

This weekend enjoy the gorgeous fall weather and come to Downtown Wilmington for the Riverfest.

Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational

This weekend it’s the Annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational at the Country Club of Landfall! Now in it’s 14th year, the golf tournament is held in honor of baseball great Willie Stargell who died of kidney disease in 2001.

The event starts Friday night from 7:00 until 10:00, with a private VIP Celebrity and Sponsor reception. Then on Saturday night the Willie Stargell Auction Dinner and Dance, which is black tie optional, will take place at 6:00 in the Landfall Ballroom. The golf portion of the event happens Sunday morning at 9:00 after a light breakfast at 8:00 for the golfers.

Celebrities at this year’s event are Olympians, actors, retired coaches, and retired athletes from the NFL, MLB, NBA, and college athletes. A few celebrity attendees include, Ron Robinson, Reggie Sanders, Cliff Levingston, Harvey Glance, Anne Donovan, Kirnari James, Dwight Hicks, Tony Womack, Dominic Santana, and Jerry Royster.

The Willie Stargell Foundation’s mission is to provide funds to support kidney disease research and treatment for those suffering from the disease. Last year’s Celebrity Invitational raised $100,000 for the Foundation.

This weekend it’s the 15th Annual Landfall Tradition Golf Tournament! The college women’s golf tournament is one of the best in the nation with 18 teams competing.

The tournament starts Friday morning on the Dye Golf Course at the Country Club of Landfall. Golfers will start Friday and Saturday morning at 8:30 and Friday morning at 8:45. The events end Sunday evening with an awards ceremony.

On Thursday before collegiate tournament there is a College-Am Tournament, which ends with a reception, Dinner of Champions, and an award ceremony. This College-Am Tournament has contributed over $300,000 to the UNCW golf scholarship program.

Everyone is welcome to this fun event, and admittance and parking are free. The Landfall Tradition is a great opportunity to see the top college women golfers in the country compete and to come out and support your favorite team.

Beach2Battleship Iron Triathlon

This Saturday it’s the Annual Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon! The internationally recognized competition attracts athletes from all over the world to compete across Wilmington. The race starts with a 2.4 mile (1.2 mile for the half) swim in Banks Channel in Wrightsville Beach at 7:15 am. The swim is followed by a 112 mile (56 mile for the half) bike ride which starts at Wrightsville Beach and takes competitors through Wilmington and three surrounding counties towards White Lake, before ending in Historic Downtown Wilmington. From there the running portion begins with the athletes running 26.2 miles (13.1 miles for the half) around Downtown Wilmington and Greenfield Lake before finishing on the Cape Fear River right across from the USS North Carolina Battleship. This exciting race sponsored by PPD brings thousands of competitors to Wilmington every year. If you see the swimmers, bikers, and runners this Saturday be sure to cheer them on!
