22nd Annual Landfall Foundation Gala

Its time for the Annual Landfall Foundation Gala! Now in its 22nd year, the event will take place this Saturday, April 22. The theme this year is “A Royal Affair” and the enchanting gala will make guests feel as if they have been transported to an classic English garden. There will be all the merriment and sophistication of a Grand English wedding, and guests will wine, dine, and dance all night. Additionally, there will be a live Boy’s Choir and a Silent and Live Auction.

The Annual Black Tie Gala is the Landfall Foundation’s biggest fundraiser, raising 70% of the net revenue. The Landfall Foundation donates and changes the lives of every day people in need in the Wilmington community. There are 74 organizations that receive grants from the foundation; a few include The Cameron Art Museum, Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, NourishNC, and the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. Since the Landfall Foundation started in 1995, $4.2 million has been raised and awarded to people in our area. 9th Annual Wrightsville Beach Marathon

The 9th Annual Wrightsville Beach Marathon is taking place this Saturday! Sponsored by New Hanover Regional Medical Center, this fun event brings everyone together. Competitors, volunteers, and spectators all enjoy the race and the excitement. Landfall Realty will be manning the water station on Arboretum Drive right across from Fair Lakes Drive.  Please stop by and help us cheer on the athletes!

Beginning at 6:40am the half marathon and full marathon races start at Wrightsville Beach and end at UNCW. The route takes the race through Landfall, with participants entering the Eastwood Gate around 7:00 and exiting through the Military Cutoff Gate. Landfall residents who wish to cheer on the runners will receive a complimentary breakfast package from Dunkin Donuts as a gift from the Landfall Foundation who appreciates your support. People cheering and holding signs is always a huge motivator for the participants.

The Landfall Foundation is the main beneficiary of the funds from the race. Run by resident volunteers, the Landfall Foundation helps the underprivileged in the Wilmington area by providing food, shelter, health, arts, education, leadership programs, and scholarships to those in need. Last year the Foundation awarded $363,100 to 74 local charities!

Valentine’s Day Dinner

Enjoy a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner at the Country Club of Landfall this year! With a spectacular menu this is an evening to be remembered. The dinner will take place in the VDR and Grill Room at the Nicklaus Clubhouse. The prix fixe menu includes fried oysters and bacon, contemporary caesar salad, filet mignon and scallop, grouper chowder, bone-in pork chop, and for dessert valrhona chocolate and hazelnut cake, vanilla bean pearls, passion fruit coulis, and candied hazelnuts.

Wilmington International Airport Adds New Flights

The Wilmington International Airport (ILM) has expanded! Now with flights to more cities, ILM makes its easier than ever to travel. Starting in March flights to Chicago and Dulles International Airport outside of Washington D.C. will be added. These flights are part of the expansion to the airport in an effort to accelerate growth. In 2017, 57,000 aircraft departed or arrived at ILM, transporting 836,000 passengers. In the near future ILM hopes to add nonstop flights to Newark and Boston as well.

Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri Attends Fundraiser at the Country Club of Landfall

Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri was in town on Friday for a charity event held at the Country Club of Landfall! The host of the popular television show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives was in town visiting local restaurants and attending the third annual GLOW Fundraiser, which is the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington. The chef was excited to see the community coming together to support the education of the young girls and of the girls for their determination to succeed. The Country Club of Landfall hosted the event, which included breakfast, lunch, and dinner events.

The fundraiser was to raise money for a new school that is being built in Wilmington for GLOW off of Kerr Avenue. The new school will offer a lot more resources, space, tools, and enhance the learning environment for the students. Expected to be completed in time for the 2019-2020 school year, this school will be a great new addition to the community!

Robert Burns Scottish Dinner

Get your kilts and bagpipes! It’s time for the Annual Robert Burns Supper at the Country Club of Landfall. This unique event is held in honor of Robert Burns, a renowned Scottish bard, famous for his songs and poems, including “Auld Lang Syne”.

The exciting event takes place this Saturday night at the Nicklaus Clubhouse starting at 6:00pm. There will be Scottish-inspired and Gaelic music, dancing, door prizes, toasts, bagpipes, a silent auction, and plenty of drinks. The dinner menu also incorporates the Scottish theme with a choice of roast land, seared salmon, or beef sirloin, which are served with Scotch style sauce and warm apple bread pudding.

The birthday celebration for Robert Burns is a fun event filled with entertainment and Scottish culture. The dress code for the event is Scottish attire, black tie, or business suit. This event, the largest fundraiser of the year for the Scottish Society of Wilmington, is sure to be an unforgettable night!

UNCW Basketball

This weekend come support the Seahawks! The University of North Carolina at Wilmington men’s basketball team is taking on Towson. This is a big game, as it is a division matchup. The Seahawks are an exciting team to watch, and have made it to the March Madness Division 1 NCAA tournament the past two years. This is a great event to bring the whole family to. The fan’s enthusiasm in the gym will help even non-sports fans get involved in the game. The game is this Saturday at 7:00pm. Ticket prices vary from $10 to $18. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Drysdale Sports Center!

The ribbon cutting ceremony to christen the new Drysdale Sports Center is happening Tuesday! After much anticipated renovations the gorgeous new state of the art fitness center will be open. The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce will be at the County Club of Landfall to officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony. After spending $8 million on renovations the new facilities will feature new equipment, more classes, more space, and more support for each member’s health journey.

 

Drop-In Childcare

New at the Country Club of Landfall is Drop-In Childcare! This is a great program to take advantage of. The service will be available in the morning Monday through Friday 8:00am until 12:00pm, and is complimentary to Full and Sports Members for their immediate family members. Also, the childcare will be available in the afternoons Monday to Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm for the price of $8 for the first child and $6 for the second. This is a great program for the children to have a fun time and be entertained while allowing parents to get to the gym, run errands, or just have some free time.

Additionally, there are multiple after school classes for children at the Country Club of Landfall. For children ages 5+ there is Taste Buds, a class on January 2 that made cinnamon roll cookies and banana penguins, and Craft Starters, a class taking place on January 18th that will make bottle penguins. For children ages 8+ there is Chef Apprentice a class on January 4 that made feather brush stroke cupcakes, and a class on January 25, Creation Station, where the children will make winter wall art. All month long there are Homework Hustle classes, which take place from 3:30-5:00pm every Tuesday and Wednesday.

New Years Eve at Landfall

What better way to spend New Year’s Eve than in your own neighborhood celebrating with family and friends! The Country Club of Landfall is hosting two parties Sunday night for the big event. One event is the Family New Year’s Eve Party, which will be held from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. This children friendly event will be held in the Nicklaus Clubhouse Ballroom and will include a buffet meal, DJ, champagne and sparkling cider toast.

Later that night the party for the adults will be held at the VDR and Grill Room. From 6:00 until 10:00 there will be a pix fixe dinner. The delish menu incorporates a variety of exquisite dishes including beef tartare, lobster bisque, filet mignon and shrimp, roasted Colorado rack of lamb, and a black and white chocolate mousse entremet. Following the New Year’s Eve Dinner will be a party to ring in the New Year, from 9:00pm to 1:00am. Taking place in the Tavern the party will have a DJ playing great music all night and plenty of dancing. Additionally there will be light Hors d’oeurvres, and a champagne toast at midnight while watching the ball drop!
