Go Ahead…take a deep breath!

Posted by

Not only does Wilmington have breathtaking views, we apparently have breath-worthy air to go along with it. The latter ranking is according to the American Lung Association and its annual State of the Air Report 2020, which was released this week.
This is a repeat win for Wilmington. But what’s good in Wilmington is not apparently good elsewhere. The report states almost half of the United States population is breathing unhealthy air and air quality is declining. The study estimates about 150 million people are breathing what’s considered dirty air. Full story available at  WECT news on line.

Earth Day 50th anniversary

Posted by

On an August day in 1969, Sen. Gaylord Nelson, from Wisconsin, was in Santa Barbara inspecting what he later described as “that awful oil spill” and “puzzling about what could be done to bring public opinion to bear on the lethargic political community.” Over the next month he hatched a plan. Sit-ins that offered lessons about specific topics — were the rage in the activist 1960s, and Nelson wondered what might happen if the whole country engaged in a teach-in on how human activity imperiled the natural world. Thus Earth Day was born, and 50 years ago today!
