Next weekend it’s the Annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational at the Country Club of Landfall! Now in its 16th year this non-profit event brings together celebrities, sponsors, and the public for a weekend of fun and golf. The golf tournament is held in honor of baseball great, Willie Stargell, who died of kidney disease in 2001.
The event starts Saturday morning on November 10th at 9:00am – 3:00pm with a celebrity golf practice round. Later that night, the Willie Stargell Dinner and Dance will take place at 6:00 in the Landfall Ballroom. The golf tournament begins Sunday morning at 8:00 with a light breakfast for the golfers, followed by a shotgun start at 9:00. The event wraps up with lunch and an award ceremony at 2:00pm.
Celebrities at this year’s event are Olympians, actors, retired coaches, and retired athletes from the NFL, MLB, NBA, and college athletes. A few celebrity attendees include, Gregory Lloyd, Trot Nixon, Arthur Cullbreath, John Bunting, and Kelly Edge.
The Willie Stargell Foundation’s mission is to provide funds to support kidney disease research and treatment for those suffering from the disease. In April of this year the Foundation awarded $165,000 in grants.
