Clean Air in Wilmington

Posted by

Wilmington has been ranked a one of the top cities for clean air. Only 6 cities received the highest rating in the study conducted by the American Lung Association.

Wilmington had zero days with ozone and high particle pollution between 2013 and 2015. The whole of Eastern North Carolina has proven to be a healthy place to live, with low air pollution levels. Greenville, Morehead City, and New Bern did not have any days with levels reaching the dangerous air pollution level.

North Carolina has been working on increasing air quality since 1970, when the Clean Air Act was passed. Since then there have been amendments to the original bill as well as the Clean Smokestacks Act, which has cut the state’s emissions from 245,000 tons to 56,000 tons in just 11 years.

The healthy air quality translates to healthy people. There are less asthma attacks, respiratory issues, and decreased heart issues.

Battery Park Sets Grand Opening

Landfall Realty and Venture Homes of Coastal Carolina celebrated the Grand Opening of Battery Park on the weekend of April 8th and 9th. Battery Park is Landfall’s newest neighborhood, conveniently located near the community’s Eastwood Gate and the Drysdale Sports Center. It features 24 new homes designed in the coastal vernacular and built by John Lancaster of Venture Homes, one of Wilmington’s most respected custom home builders.

Eight homesites offer great views of Landfall Pete Dye Signature Golf Course, while several more back up to conservation areas for added privacy. The homes will range in size from 2,600 to 3,300 square feet, with house/lot packages starting at $650,000, according to Landfall Realty. One home is completed, and a second should be ready for move-in April. A third home is under construction, with completion expected by late summer.

Perhaps the best thing about the new neighborhood is the builder behind it. John Lancaster founded Venture Homes in the early 1990s and built his first home in Landfall shortly afterward. Since then he’s completed well over 200 more homes here, including many of the best-built and most architecturally impressive in the community. “I’ve always said that Landfall sets the standard for coastal communities in the Carolinas,” Lancaster said. “Everything here is done to a higher level. As far as I’m concerned, Landfall is the best community on the East Coast.”
