This weekend, November 6th-8th, is the Annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational at Landfall! This year’s celebrities include retired MLB, NBA, and NFL players, professional golfers, Olympians, actors, and coaches. A few of the celebrities attending include Cliff Livingston, Sydney Penny, Larry Rivers, Richard Roundtree, Greg Vaugn, and Cornelius Bennett.
Wilver (Willie) Stargell was a World Series Champion, Hall of Famer, All-Star, and MVP baseball player for the Pittsburg Pirates from 1962 until 1982. With 475 career homeruns Willie was quick to become a baseball legend. He was known for his leadership on and off the field resulting in his teammates affectionately calling him “Pops”.
The first event of the weekend is a private celebrity and sponsor reception on Friday night. Saturday 9:00am until 10:00am is the celebrity autograph signing at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Mayfaire, followed by The Willie Stargell Auction Dinner and Dance that night at 6:00 at the Country Club of Landfall. Then on Sunday morning it’s the Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament at Landfall. Passes for the golf portion of the event are available for $20. The recipients include the Willie Stargell Kidney Dialysis Center at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, DaVita Dialysis Emergency Kidney Fund, and UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, Eastern Carolina University, and Carolinas Medical Center Transplant Programs.
